On April 6, 2018, my life changed forever. I was a member of the Humboldt Broncos, a junior hockey team from Humboldt, Saskatchewan. We were on our way to a playoff game when our bus collided with a semi-trailer truck. Sixteen people died in the crash, including 10 of my teammates and coaches.

I was one of the 13 survivors. I suffered a severe spinal cord injury and was paralyzed from the waist down. I spent months in the hospital, undergoing multiple surgeries and rehabilitation. It was a long and difficult road, but I was determined to recover and rebuild my life.

With the support of my family, friends, and community, I slowly started to make progress. I learned how to use a wheelchair, how to live independently, and how to play hockey again. I also started to share my story with others, in the hope of inspiring them to never give up on their dreams.

In 2019, I returned to the ice with the Humboldt Broncos. It was an emotional moment, but it was also a symbol of my recovery and resilience. I am now playing for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, and I am pursuing my dream of playing in the NHL.

The Humboldt Broncos bus crash was a tragedy that changed the lives of so many people. But it also showed the power of resilience and the importance of never giving up on your dreams. I am grateful to be alive, and I am determined to make the most of my second chance.

Here are some of the things that I have learned from my experience:

  • Life is precious. Every day is a gift, and we should never take it for granted.
  • Adversity can make us stronger. When we face challenges, we have the opportunity to grow and learn.
  • It is important to have a support system. The people who love and care about us can help us through difficult times.
  • Never give up on your dreams. No matter what obstacles you face, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

I hope that my story will inspire others to never give up on their dreams, no matter what obstacles they face. I also hope that it will help to raise awareness of the importance of spinal cord injury research and support.

Thank you for reading my story.
